Welcome January! January started off much of the same as we left 2014: sick! The boys have had a particularly rough winter and have been sick for 80% of it. It has been more frustrating for Mommy than anyone else and something I know that God is using to grow my patience and my trust in His sovereignty.
In early January, we took a few trips to Lowes to get supplies for a Kitchen project that we have been wanting to do for a while. Matt has always wanted to put a backsplash in our Kitchen, but not pay the price that it usually costs. We have shopped the clearance shelves for over a year looking for a good deal! And we finally found a good deal! We got the tiles for over 50% off and were so excited! Little did we know, they made a mistake ringing everything up that we didn't catch until we got home and we ended up getting 75% off. The nice thing was, Lowes ate the cost even after we went back and told them their error! Anyways, we were excited to do this project ourselves and were pleased with how it turned out. Next on the list: installing cabinet handles.
On one of our trips to Lowes, a very nice lady gave Blake and Kade lollipops. It is funny how kids know what to do right away. Kade did end up getting VERY sticky, but this made this sick little guy so excited!
Okay, so he knew how to eat it the right way for the most part....On January 6th, we celebrated Sue's birthday at Top Golf. It is a very awesome place where you can golf at night from a platform and eat food. It is like a driving range. We ended up just going their to eat since we had the boys and we didn't want them close to the edge as the spaces were pretty small for little boys and 8 adults. We hope to go back soon and golf sometime. If you ever go, get the injectible donuts... SO DELICIOUS! They give you a shot looking thing that is filled with cream or chocolate and you can fill your donuts with it.
Matt woke up one morning saying he was SO tired. I believe we were up with the boys multiple times with their colds. He had had such a busy week that I thought I would surprise him with a Dutch Bros coffee. We made the trek to Maricopa and he was surprised and excited to see us. He surprised us with having free time in his schedule, so we were able to go to a park and let the boys play. It was SO fun to be OUT of the house!
Blake's face was rubbed raw from his cold. He hates being dirty and hated his runny nose. Whenever it ran, he thought it was necesarry to rub his entire face. The outcome: an entirely chapped face. Most people know the discomfort of a chapped nose from a runny nose and from blowing it with tissues. His entire face was that way. He woke up one time in the middle of the night in tears for over an hour we think because of the pain. He just couldn't understand that he couldn't rub his face. So, I tried putting bandaids on it...
And mittens on his hands....
Nothing lasted long. Thankfully his face is finally starting to look back to normal after a couple weeks! The poor little guy got so many weird looks and I was asked repeatedly what happened to his face whenever we went out in public.
The first day Kade was feeling more like himself, he was crawling in and out of cabinets. I would shut it and he would push it open and greet me with this big smile.
Tata picked Blake up for lunch on Saturday like he does usually once a month, so Kade and I had some special time together. We took a bike ride to the mail box. He is getting so big!

Love the backsplash! Way to go you two!! Looks great! And nice job getting such a steal of a deal on it too!!
ReplyDeleteGlad the boys are feeling better. Hope that is the last of it till next year!
I agree with Ally! The backsplash looks wonderful and it feels so much better when you find a good deal and do it yourself in my opinion! Sorry there is so much sickness in your home... no fun at all! I feel you on it being hard on you, I feel like when Ember is sick and whiney and needy I tend to get annoyed and frustrated when she probably needs loves and cuddles the most. It is definitely a time to learn selflessness. But way to be innovative Jenn and use band-aids and mittens :) Love it!
